A reading timer that turns minutes into finished books
Readaily is a reading timer for iPhone and Android. Start a session when you open the book, stop it when you close it, and type the page you reached; Readaily records the time, works out your pages per hour and tells you how long the rest of the book will take.
A timer sounds like a small thing, but it changes how reading fits into a day. “I’ll read when I have time” becomes “I’ll read for fifteen minutes after dinner”, and fifteen minutes is something you can actually do.
How a session works
- Pick the book you are reading (it opens on the last page you logged).
- Start the timer. On iPhone, the session appears on the Lock Screen; on Apple Watch you can follow it from your wrist.
- Read. Pause if the doorbell rings; the timer keeps the real reading time, not the time the screen was on.
- Stop and type the page. That is the only bookkeeping: Readaily works out the pages you read and your pace.
What the timer tells you
- Pages per hour, per book. Dense non-fiction and a page-turner thriller will never have the same pace, so Readaily keeps it per book.
- Time left in the book. “About 3 h 40 min left” is easier to plan around than “212 pages left”.
- Minutes per day. Your week fills in as a row of days, and you can see the month at a glance in the calendar.
A real number to compare yourself with
Across 1,033 timed sessions in Readaily (October 2026), the median reader turned about 28 pages an hour, and the median session lasted 29 minutes. Half of all sessions fell between 23 and 45 pages an hour. At 28 pages an hour, a 300-page novel takes about 10 hours and 40 minutes: three weeks at 30 minutes a day.
These numbers are averages across very different books. The useful number is yours, and the timer is how you get it. To plan a specific book, try the reading time calculator or look it up in how long it takes to read popular books.
Smart Sessions (Pro)
Give a book a finish date and Smart Sessions suggest how long each session should be, from your measured pace and the pages left. “Finish by Sunday” becomes “read 25 minutes tonight”. Smart Sessions and Focus Mode are part of Readaily Pro.
Questions
Why time reading sessions instead of counting books?
Because time is what you control day to day. A goal of 15 minutes a night is easier to keep than a goal of 24 books a year, and the books follow from the minutes.
How fast does the average person read?
In Readaily, the median reader turns about 28 pages an hour (0.47 pages a minute), measured across 1,033 timed sessions in October 2026. Half of the sessions fell between 23 and 45 pages an hour. Page size, genre and language change this a lot, so your own pace is the number that matters.
Can I see the timer without opening the app?
On iPhone, a Live Activity keeps the session on the Lock Screen and in the Dynamic Island. Readaily also has an Apple Watch app and home screen widgets on iOS and Android.
What if I forget to start the timer?
You can log a session afterwards with the minutes and pages by hand. It counts for your goal and streak.
Is the reading timer free?
Yes. The timer, page logging and statistics are free. Smart Sessions, which suggest a session length from your pace and the date you want to finish, are part of Readaily Pro.
Try it with the book you’re reading
Readaily is free on iPhone and Android. Add your current book, set a goal you’ll actually keep, and start your first session tonight.
