Goodreads alternatives: which app fits the way you read

The best Goodreads alternative depends on what you want from it. For stats, mood-based recommendations and an easy import, choose The StoryGraph. For a solo reading timer with an AI assistant, Bookly. For a private reading journal with a timer, Bookmory. For building a daily reading habit with a timer, streaks and private book clubs, Readaily.

People leave Goodreads for different reasons: some want better statistics, some don’t want their reading data inside Amazon, and some realise they want help reading more, not just recording what they’ve read. There isn’t one best replacement; there is a best fit.

The StoryGraph

An independent Goodreads alternative founded in 2019, with machine-learning recommendations you can filter by mood and pace, detailed reading charts, buddy reads with spoiler locks, and no ads. It imports your Goodreads shelves. It has no reading timer or offline mode, and the interface is in English only, per its own public roadmap. Full comparison with Readaily.

Bookly

A reading-timer app from TwoDoor Games with streaks, goals, detailed statistics, ambient sounds, an AI assistant for recommendations, and Goodreads import. Social features are minimal, and the free version shows ads. Full comparison with Readaily.

Bookmory

A private reading journal from TonySoft with a free reading timer (including on the iPhone Lock Screen), daily and yearly goals, streaks, notes with text scanning (OCR), and 17 interface languages. There is no social layer; the free version shows ads, and some statistics and cross-device sync are Premium. Source: App Store listing.

Readaily

Built around one habit: a short, timed reading session every day. A reading timer that logs pages and works out your pace, a daily goal and a streak that resets quietly, private book clubs, an Apple Watch app and widgets, in eight languages. The free version has ads; Pro (US$0.99 a month) removes them and adds Focus Mode and Smart Sessions. It doesn’t import from Goodreads yet.
